800-Meter-Läufer Herms stirbt mit 26. Der deutsche Sport ist geschockt, die Leichtathletik trauert um einen großartigen Athleten: Der Tod von 800-m-Läufer Rene Herms hat für Bestürzung gesorgt. Der 26-Jährige war am Samstag leblos in seiner Wohnung in Lohmen nahe dem sächsischen Pirna gefunden worden.
Der sechsmalige deutsche Meister, der 2004 im olympischen Halbfinale stand, hinterlässt seine Ehefrau Steffi, die in Hannover arbeitet und am Samstag nicht zu Hause war. Nachdem Herms am Samstagvormittag nicht ans Telefon gegangen war, hatte ihn seine Schwiegermutter gefunden.
“Es gibt keinen Verdacht auf eine Straftat, Fremdeinwirkung oder Suizid“, sagte Polizeisprecher Mike Niebel in Dresden. Am Montag sollen die genauen Todesumstände geklärt werden. Eine Obduktion ist angekündigt, außerdem wollen die Beamten noch einmal die Wohnung inspizieren. (dpa)
